RCS to replace SMS & MMS
RCS to replace SMS & MMS
Rich Communication Services (RCS) is a new, free way of sending text messages that offers more features than the traditional text messages (SMS) and picture messages (MMS) you might be used to. With RCS, you can send high-quality photos and videos, see when someone is typing a reply, and know when they’ve read your message. It also allows for better group chats, where you can add or remove people easily and see who has read the messages. RCS uses Wi-Fi to send messages, which means you can still communicate even if you don’t have mobile signal.
Additionally, RCS makes it easier for Android and iPhone users to communicate with each other, as it provides a consistent and enhanced messaging experience across both platforms. This means you can enjoy the same features and quality of messaging, regardless of the type of phone you are using.
To enable RCS on an Android phone, you will need to have the Google Messages app installed. If you don't have it installed or don't know if you do, click the link below to download/check:
If you have the Google Messages app installed, open it, tap on your profile picture in the top right, go to Message Settings, and select RCS chats at the top. Then, turn on the “RCS chats” option.
To enable RCS on an iPhone, you need to update to iOS 18. To update your device, go to Settings > General > Software Update.
Once you have updated to iOS 18, go to Settings, tap on Apps, select Messages, and turn on “RCS Messaging.”
